The Clutch Dog By Sierra Marine Engine Parts (18-1290) is a type of clutch that uses resistance with two spinning propellers or other rotating components like gears. One of the plates has several uniformly spaced protrusions machined into its face, comparable to a battlement on top of a castle wall. The other plate has a similarly spaced series of like-sized recesses drilled into its face. When slip and friction are undesirable, this device effectively joins the shafts and transfers rotational motion from one to the other. That used a strong mechanical coupling to transmit rotational motion from the layshaft to the primary shaft.No slip or friction is involved after the engagement of the clutch.
