The unclean oil wears down the oil pump's machine components and destroys the engine's bearing surfaces. OIL FILTER (REC3FV-13440-00) - The outside of the filter is a metal container with a sealing gasket that allows it to be tightly held against the surface of the engine. The gasket is held in place by the can's base plate, which is perforated with holes just inside the gasket. The oil filter system on the engine block is threaded via a central hole. The filter material, which is usually composed of synthetic fiber, is contained within the container. The oil pump in the engine sends it straight to the filter, where it enters through the base plate's perimeter holes. The dirty oil is pumped back into the engine through the central hole after passing through the filter medium while under pressure.
