It includes two electrodes separated by an air gap across which current from a high-tension ignition system discharges to form a spark to ignite the air-fuel mixture. Electrical energy is transmitted through the spark plug, jumping the gap in the plug's firing end, if the voltage supplied to the plugs is high enough.
