It has a lower carbon content (.03 percent maximum) that effectively resists intergranular carbide precipitation, which can eventually cause weld corrosion. Stainless steel welding rods produce the best bead appearance when TIG welding a set of materials. The proportions of chromium and nickel are balanced to ensure that the weld contains enough ferrite to resist hot cracking.
