The Valve Stem Seal has a function in lubrication. It plays a function where it prevents the oil from the cylinder head from entering the combustion chamber. The amount of oil must be controlled to lubricate the valve stem as it moves in the valve guide. There is a slow leak if bubbles form in the valve system if you squirt soapy water on it. It will lead to engine failure because the seal is damaged and causes oil flooding.
